Accountability to God and Man | Accountability series 1

By Pastor Dennis Williams

People are accountable to particular human authorities and, ultimately, to God, according to the biblical concept of accountability. (Ro 13:1–2; 14:12)

For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. Romans 14:11

In general, good behavior is rewarded, while bad behavior is punished.

(Ps 1:6; Jn 5:28–29; Ro 2:5–8; Ga 6:7–8)

Accountability of people individually ♦ For oneself: Ro 14:12 (cf. 1 Pe 4:5) ♦ For one’s works: Ec 12:13–14; Re 20:11–15 ♦ For one’s words: Mt 12:36 ♦ For one’s sins: Ro 3:19 ♦ For one’s faithfulness: 1 Co 4:1–2 (cf. Mt 25:21)
Accountability of spiritual leaders ♦ To care for the flock: Heb 13:17 (cf. Jn 21:15–17; Ac 20:28); 1 Pe 5:1–2 ♦ To be examples to the flock: 1 Pe 5:3
To Christ ♦ In His authority for universal judgment: Jn 5:22, 27; Ac 17:31; Ro 2:16 ♦ In His judgment of human works: Mt 25:31–46; 1 Co 3:11–15; 4:4–5; 2 Co 5:10 ♦ In His judgment of local churches: Re 2:1–3:21 (cf. 1 Pe 4:17)
To other humans ♦ Accountability to governmental officials: Da 6:2; Mt 22:21; Ro 13:1; 1 Pe 2:13–14
Accountability of stewards to masters: Lu 16:2
Accountability of unbelievers in a Christian meeting: 1 Co 14:24–25

Lord Jesus, I believe you are the son of God, and you died for my sins and rose again from the dead, I trust you for cleansing and forgiveness, and you have received me as a Child of God. If there is any resentment or unforgiveness for anyone, I lay it at your feet and ask you to forgive me. I ask your forgiveness for being involved in other religions, witchcraft, or the occult seeking other gods. I acknowledge this as sin and loose myself right now in Jesus name. And now, Lord Jesus, I come to and yield my body, mind, and spirit to you. I give you my all. I surrender my tongue to you to be an instrument of righteousness to worship you in a new language. By faith, I receive it now, Lord in Jesus name. Amen.

Bible Verse of the Day

For, lo, he that formeth the mountains, and createth the wind, and declareth unto man what is his thought, that maketh the morning darkness, and treadeth upon the high places of the earth, The LORD, The God of hosts, is his name.
